Der Autor Michael Simmons lebt in Kalifornien. Seine gitarristische Laufbahn begann er in jungen Jahren mit einer elektrischen Gitarre in einer Punkband, bis ihn ein fanatischer Fan von Django Reinhardt zu akustischer Musik bekehrte. 15 Jahre lang arbeitete er bei Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, Kalifornien, wo er sich ein umfangreiches Wissen über Bau und Geschichte von Gitarren, Mandolinen und Banjos aneignete.
